Alphabroder has acquired Golden State Activewear it was announced today. Some key Golden State employees will be staying on and insuring no interruption of service to their existing customers. There was no initial word on if and when the Golden State warenhouse might close down.
Owners Scott and Laurie Prestine have operated Golden State for 27 years and the business has roots that go back 75 years to the family’s wholesale Western Wear business.
The purchase is a further step of consolidation with SanMar, Alphabroder, and S&S dominating the industry and very few single location distributors surviving at this point.
Besides the reasons stated in the press release, you have to guess that doing business in the very congested and very expensive Bay area must have pressured the Prestine’s to make this move.
Horrible news.
