The creative firm CCL branding did this logo for the One Caucasus cultural festival.
Here is their thought process as relayed to me by my pal David Verga of CCL.
“Knowing the goal of the festival was to foster unity and understanding between differing cultures, we began our design process by researching the histories of Georgia, Azerbaijan, and Armenia to see what common symbols or elements might be shared. After a thorough review, we chose the Caucasus Mountains because they both literally and figuratively provided the common ground the event organizers were after. Rather than presenting a perfect image of the mountains, we decided to use the shape of three concert attendees arm-in-arm—one for each of the three nations—to form the outline of the range.
Our intent was to show attendees that, though they came from different nations—even warring nations—they all lived their lives in the shadow of the same mountains and that the Caucasus range could be seen as a daily reminder of what they all shared, rather than a physical obstacle that kept them apart.
I think the following photos show that the logo really works, whether the logo is on shirts, as a sign, as a stencil, and whether worn by Georgian, Azerbaijani, or Armenian.
