Hanes and Champion have a new site at hanesink.com for ordering a shirt, focused on all high schools and colleges. I guess it might cut into the businesses of a few people, but mostly it seems like it might lead to less aggravation and more business for most of us. If somebody wants a single shirt for the local high school? Hanes has 13K schools set up ready to go, and I didn’t want that call for a single shirt anyhow. If that person likes it, they might come to one of us for 100 of that design later.
They also apparently did extensive testing and they can do DTG (Direct to Garment) printing on all of the polyester garments in the Hanes and the Champion line. Probably that is with a Kornit, since I know folks are getting very good results on polyester now with their Kornits. That Hanes can get good DTG prints on all their styles and colors is very impressive as I know that each one usually has slightly different parameters to get optimum print results.
Are the upper end of the small shop (one man show with auto and manual – me!) doomed? Amazon, Hanes, Walmart will be next. Should we all sell our presses?
