How’s It Printed: Grandwheels Los Angeles

We were asked by SanMar to create and print a design with their new Port & Company® – Essential Pigment-Dyed Tee – PC099.  Distressed graphics printed with discharge ink would always be my first choice when working with pigment-dyed tees as the soft hand and subtle “grunge” is a natural fit for the washed and faded look inherent to the garment.  The only problem with this approach is, depending on the manufacturer’s process, any particular style or color of pigment-dyed tee may not be compatible with discharge ink. Therefore testing prior to design is required.  In this case the PC099 in Black discharged beautifully.  The following photos show the print process and results. For details you can download the spec sheet here. (Editors note: now writing this in July 2023. Do not rely on this info or any info regarding dye migration or discharge ratings that is this old, dye ingredients and manufacturing methods and even manufacturing countries or factories can change over time. All of these things may alter results. I would conclude from the attached discharge ratings that many of the Port shirts discharge well, but would get more recent info from SanMar or test  yourself prior to production.)

  1. Would you mind telling what’s in the pot. It would be nice to know what you used to achieve the results you are showing. Like how much, base and pigment and also the discharge additive that was used in to do this print. Not the default numbers, but the actual amounts you used. That would really get some of us started in the right direction. Thanks for the info you do provide I always find it informative.
