Fashion Forward Friday: Advancing Gen AI Tools

No matter where you fall on the AI Generative Art Spectrum, ignoring the new advancements is difficult. You will see them in your design tools if you’re a seasoned designer. Like the Content Credentials we explored a couple of weeks back. Or, if you are a new designer, I imagine you are inundated with these new tools. Despite ethical concerns, colleges are adding AI Art courses. MidJourney, Dall E, and Ideogram have been leading the space in Generative AI Art, and part of that is constantly adding new features.

New Ideogram Tool

Ideogram introduced the new Canvas feature, available in beta with a paid and unpaid (for now) subscription. It opens up a world of creative possibilities, allowing for intricate image editing, such as selecting and replacing parts of an image. This means you can easily change a glass of water to milk or extend images to include new elements. Whether uploading images or generating new ones using text prompts, Canvas provides a versatile platform for various projects, from illustrating a business to creating thematic visuals.

The Tool includes tools like Magic Fill for inpainting and Extend for generating new backgrounds. The approach makes it ideal for detailed projects requiring multiple images and adjustments. You can remix images, adjust styles, and combine elements from different canvases, all within a flexible workspace.

Looking Ahead at Advancing Gen AI Tools

While Ideogram is still the best-performing Generative AI Tool for Text over others like MidJourney or Dalle, it is still lacking in specific prompt generation, where the others excel. A combination of these tools is the most effective. Generally, I only work in black and white. To get the best “clip art” specific to my need and rebuild or redraw in an Adobe workspace. Firefly is improving, as well.

As I said, wherever you fall on the spectrum, whether you are a Gen AI user, Gen AI avoider, or totally against Generative AI Art, it is interesting to see how the AI space is changing our landscape of design tools.
