This year was all about digging into how artificial intelligence (AI) is shaking up the apparel industry. From creativity to ethics, we covered it all at The Ink Kitchen. Here’s a rundown of some of the takeaways from 2024, a Year of Exploration. Check out the links on things you might’ve missed or might be curious about, and remember to subscribe and follow so you can stay up to date in 2025:
AI and Art: Creativity, Unleashed
We started 2024 by taking our “Fahrenheit AI” series to the next level. 2023’s experiments with AI-generated heron designs for t-shirts using tools like Midjourney and Let’s Enhance were just the beginning. AI isn’t just about speeding things up—it’s about opening new doors for unique, scalable projects.
Text Generation and AI Agents
We compared tools like Midjourney and Ideogram to see how they handle text generation. Spoiler: they’re not perfect, but they’re powerful. We also built AI agents to streamline workflows, sparking a lot of debate about ethics and ownership in content creation.
Work Smarter, Not Harder
AI stepped in to handle the mundane, giving designers more time to focus on the cool, creative stuff. Whether it’s automating patterns or simplifying tedious edits, AI is becoming the ultimate team player.
Ethics, AI, and You
Of course, we couldn’t skip the big questions. Who owns the work? What happens to jobs? We dove deep into the responsibility of using AI thoughtfully while making space for creators to thrive.
Fashion Forward Fridays
We introduces the weekly Fashion Forward Friday, because once we have the basics of AI we are looking forward to what’s next, how are we using AI, what are all these tools (and subscriptions) available to us? We wrapped up the year with bold predictions. Personalized fashion powered by AI? Predicting market trends? It’s all closer than you think.
Black Friday and Generative AI
Black Friday hit differently this year. in 2024, 38% of shoppers used AI to find deals, and companies like Wendy’s and 1-800-Flowers are leaning into AI-driven customer experiences.
Firefly: Behind the Scenes
Adobe’s Firefly is training AI on licensed content for safe commercial use, or so they say. We explored how creators can maybe profit (?) and the future that might not be.
Lady Print Boss & ChatGPT vs Gemini
Talking ChatGPT with Lady Print Boss, gave us some practical examples and sage advice about how to integrate AI into our workflow quickly with results. This conversation inspired our own curiosity about what Gemini had to offer today, and we gave it a spin for a week (and a month). We even snuck in scripting with AI for Artists before the year’s end.
2024, a Year of Exploration showed us that AI is rapidly evolving. From big breakthroughs to new challenges, the ride is up and down, learning to tread carefully is part of the plan. Stay tuned for what’s next!
